Christmas Gift ideas for Home Ed Kids
Nov 25, 2024Home Ed Kids are as unique as they come, so putting together a Christmas Gift Guide for them hasn't been easy, but here's some brilliant bits that I think pretty much every home ed kid will love!
Here are some great gift ideas if you are feeling a bit stuck for things that are as educational as they are fun.
Tuck in!
1. Womb to World Art Home Educating - Learning is Everywhere T-Shirt and other gorgeous Home Ed gifts.
I asked around in some home ed business circles to find you a few lovely items that not only support small UK companies but home educating families too. These stunning, artistic T-shirts are a proud statement and a lovely vibrant design. A thoughtful gift for a home ed family.
2. We Buy Bricks - Recycled Lego!
I stumbled across We Buy Bricks a little while ago as my kids had started trying to make really interesting new things and were getting frustrated that so many of the pieces they had were supposed to be part of a set and they didn't want to muddle them all up! Each box has around 700 lego pieces that have been recycled when people were selling their unused bricks! It is a genius UK business, helps to stop more plastic heading to landfill and creates a marvellous bargain too. Your Home Ed friend is going to love that you have invested in their kids creativity and saved the planet too.
3. Grow Your Own Christmas Tree - Straight from the north pole!
Home Education means our kids are always learning but getting gifts like this one, created by a home educating mum again, that literally gives them a chance to grow their own Xmas tree is a definite win win! This is such a lovely little stocking filler gift for any kids!
4. WOW Journals
This is such a brilliant idea, a journal for kids, by kids - created by a home educating family. This journal really is a thoughtful gift idea for anyone's kids, a chance to reflect on profound questions, funny moments, things that made you say 'wow' today, thing's that you would love to do in the future, what you are struggling with right now. I will really be enjoying using this with my kids as they start their journaling journey, getting them used to the idea of reflecting with gratitude on their day, and processing difficult moments.
Order these from Amazon for £18, or reach out to [email protected] and quote 'HOMEEDWOW' to get them for £15 inc postage - a £3 discount!
5. Magazine Subscriptions - here's a few I love!
Giving someone's home educated kids the gift of a magazine subscription is bound to go down well. Inspiring gifts for kids is number 1 on my priority list, and always gratefully received!
Here's a few I have seen that are well reviewed and I think would be perfect: Whizz Pop Bang, The Week Junior & National Geographic Kids.
6. Short on CASH?
I get it! I have worked hard to ensure that this list is mostly made up of affordable gifts for homeschooling families, but times are hard and often we want to do something nice for our friends and family and that doesn't always have to mean putting your hand in your pocket! Here's a few things you could do:
- Share a skill! - Do you know how to play the piano? Sew? Bush-craft skills? Fix an engine? Why not offer to give their kids a chance to learn a new skill with you - share your wisdom and let them get stuck in. Classes cost a lot sometimes and so many of us have skills to share even if we don't realise it!
- Make them something. Paint them a bookmark, crochet a cuddly, knit them a scarf, write them a story, make chocolate bark - if you are a creative person I can guarantee you have an idea up your sleeve that will literally wow them!
- Offer to babysit - and make it a super fun night - movie and pizza, a trip out for the day - this is a simple one, but one that could mean the world to parents who don't get a lot of 1:1 or alone time and to show those little ones how much you love them too!
7. Craftiosity Gift Subscription
- CRAFTGIFT15 – Get 15% off Gift Subscriptions (3 months or more) from Craftiosity.
- LOVECRAFTING15 – New subscribers can enjoy 15% off their first Craftiosity craft kit.
I know that so often home educated kids love creating things from scratch, with their own hands, it is super satisfying to try out a new skill. The downside is - if they get it into their head that they are going to learn to crochet, or sew, or macrame - you find yourself feeling overwhelmed trying to get all the right bits and get clear instructions on how to start it. Plus starting a new hobby is never cheap.
These beautifully presented kits literally deliver the entire experience in one box - all the stuff, all the information and none of the overwhelm. I have really enjoyed cross-stitching a cute robin to hang up this Christmas - something I will be sharing on my social feed shortly when I'm done - and it has made for far more satisfying evenings than simply watching the telly and I know your slightly older home ed kids who love to craft, will love these kits too!
8. Whirli Toy Subscription - Order, Use, Return, Repeat!
I have used Whirli a few times over the years when our toy collection has grown stagnant. My two are often a go bonkers outdoors with a ;chill on screen' indoors vibe so it is really important to me that I inspire their at home free-play as much as possible!
But - why shop when you can swap?. With a subscription at any level that suits you, you get to borrow a variety of toys, ensuring our home educated children have access to new and exciting learning tools without the clutter and expense of owning them all. This service is perfect for home educators who want to provide a dynamic play environment that evolves with their children's interests, all while promoting sustainability and reducing waste.

I will keep adding ideas as I find them, but I hope that you manage to find the perfect gift for the home educated child in your life!
