What do Home Educators want for Christmas?

Sparkling lights on a Christmas Tree with text 'THE Christmas Gift Guide for Home Ed Parents'

It dawned on me a short while ago that I am sure there are people all over the world typing into google 'what would a home educator love for Christmas' and if you aren't one yourself, you may not realise how often home educators are scrimping and saving to make their lifestyle achievable - how little they spoil themselves and how often they crave a perfect gift that solves a problem that drives them bonkers daily!

So I started dreaming, thinking of the things that if I could buy for myself, then I would, to make my life a little easier, to solve a problem or to make me smile! It is hard to find unique gifts for home educators, so this Christmas Gift List is the culmination of all the things I could think of that would make me and those I know, very happy! These may benefit the kids too but they are going to bring so much joy to their parents!

1. PACMAT by rubbastuff - use OFFROADING12 to get 12% off any PACMAT design, any size!

As a home educator we all know how vital a good picnic blanket is! I had been using the same picnic blanket for nearly 5 years, a testament to its durability haha, but my goodness has it irked me - huge, cumbersome, it never fitted in my backpack and it was tricky to fold and secure. First world problems I know, but I have seen friends with gorgeous picnic blankets that fold up and stuff in their bags effortlessly and it has been on my bucket list for a couple of years to find a picnic blanket that was vibrant, waterproof, washable, durable, light, easy to fold and made of recycled materials (I didn't want a lot...)

So, boy was I excited to find PACMAT's - designed by a family based in Hackney, London for their autistic son, to make spending time outdoors easier for their family, these products not only do their job extremely well but it also supports a brilliant UK family business.  This design is the Nature Trail one and is super stunning! Hands down this is going to be one of the best gifts for homeschooling parents.

2. Womb to World Art Home Educating Mama Button Badge and other gorgeous Home Ed gifts.

I asked around in some home ed business circles to find you a few lovely items that not only support small UK companies but home educating families too. These stunning, artistic badges are a proud statement and a lovely thing to pin to a coat or bag to show the world their empowered choice. A lovely stocking filler! Such a thoughtful gift for home educating mums.

3. Wild Human Skincare - Naked Face Cream

If your home ed friend or family member is anything like me, they spend A LOT of time outside, wind, sun, rain, cold - you name it, my skin is exposed to it and without a gorgeous, natural, organic skincare product, my skin literally feels sore. These products are all made by hand, in the UK, by a home educating mum - Eliza, using ethically sourced, cruelty free ingredients. Another lovely AND practical gift idea that will truly make a difference this Christmas.

4. Short on CASH?

I get it! I have worked hard to ensure that this list is mostly made up of affordable gifts for homeschooling families, but times are hard and often we want to do something nice for our friends and family and that doesn't always have to mean putting your hand in your pocket! Here's a few things you could do:

- Offer to go help them sort out the doom boxes or stacks of home ed paperwork! They might not be willing to let you scrub the toilet, but they may take the kind offer of a body double day - especially if you bring cake! Help them start the new year feeling more organised and ready to go again.

- Do something for them with their kids! It's nice to be surprised and a thoughtful gift made by you with their children can mean the world.

- Offer to babysit - a simple one, but one that could mean the world to parents who don't get a lot of 1:1 or alone time!

5. Real Flower Earrings by Tehila Artisan.

These hand-made, gorgeous real pressed flower and polymer clay earrings are made by a home educating mum, Annoushka. I own more pairs of her earrings than I probably should and I think they are absolutely gorgeous! Made by hand, in the UK with real flowers.

Whether you just love a handmade gift, are looking for a playful stocking filler or something truly special to make them smile, your wild, freedom loving loved one is bound to enjoy wearing these!

6. Craftiosity Gift Subscription

  • CRAFTGIFT15 – Get 15% off Gift Subscriptions (3 months or more) from Craftiosity.
  • LOVECRAFTING15 – New subscribers can enjoy 15% off their first Craftiosity craft kit.

Self-care gifts don't always look like chocolate and candles! Home Educators often value creating things from scratch, with our own hands, it is super satisfying to try out a new skill. The downside is - if you get it into your head that you are going to learn to crochet, or sew, or macrame - you find yourself feeling overwhelmed trying to get all the right bits and get clear instructions on how to start it. Plus starting a new hobby is never cheap.

These beautifully presented kits literally deliver the entire experience in one box - all the stuff, all the information and none of the overwhelm. I have really enjoyed cross-stitching a cute robin to hang up this Christmas - something I will be sharing on my social feed shortly when I'm done - and it has made for far more satisfying evenings than simply watching the telly!

7. YETI Insulated Mug

Having spent the past several years as a parent finding cold cups of coffee that I have barely taken a few sips from on the dining room table, next to my arm chair, on the kitchen side - abandoned in the midst of endless needs, demands, education, work and tidying up - I am on a mission to come back to a coffee at some point in my life that is still hot.

Give a home educator the gift of hot coffee this Christmas. Dishwasher safe, stackable and a proper mug experience makes this a winner for me!

8. Peacock Feather Fragrance Lamp by Ashleigh & Burwood, London.

I have to be honest, this started out as just a 'wow isn't that a beautiful and unique way to scent a home' and looking closer - their 100% essential oil aromatherapy lamp fragrances are cleverly combined with an alcohol base that once soaked into the wick, burns cleanly for a few minutes, then you blow it out and enjoy 30 minutes of fragrance. A lovely gift for anyone who usually enjoys wax melts or scented candles and who would appreciate a beautiful thing sitting on their mantelpiece too!

9. Hu Chocolates - Organic, Vegan, Fair Trade, Gluten free, No Emulsifiers or Artificial sweeteners!!

I have to be honest, Christmas or not, great quality chocolate is high on my agenda! But when it comes to having a nice treat, getting some properly scrummy chocolate that doesn't ruin your goals to limit processed foods and eat well - loving yourself inside out, is super important. I love these as a great gift set. Having sampled a few of their flavours now, I have to say my favourite is the cashew butter with pure vanilla bean. The little pops of seasalt in the cashew butter and the smell of the rich dark chocolate....it's literally incredible.

10. The Happiness Planner - Explore Your Inner World Set

As a coach, I work with people all the time on their inner world, to unpick the experiences, feelings, beliefs, hopes and dreams that make them who they are and how they react to their lives. When we are having a hard time it can be really hard to challenge these internal beliefs and thoughts, so when I recently stumbled across these planners I was really hopeful that they would be as gorgeous as they looked and I was not disappointed! They are a lovely quality and packed full of prompts to help you seek gratitude, to consider your health goals, to overcome your anxiety, to find abundance. They are a lovely gift for anyone you know who is having a tricky time or who cares a lot about challenging their internal voice.

Whatever you choose to get your loved one, know that taking this thought alone to consider what would really make them happy this Christmas is the best gift they could have asked for anyway - a person who loves them enough to care!

Merry Christmas!
